A Call for Reformation
The reform in the educational system has called for the elimination of conventional teaching methodologies and the integration of progressive ones. The previously established teaching strategies regard students as mere receptors of information. The system relies heavily on lower order thinking skills, and, very much, revolves around replications of in-class experiences.
Fortunately, the progressive education school of thought has deemed those acts as ineffective in empowering students and equipping them with essential skills that guarantee future successes. Progressiveness in education appeals for active learning, discovery learning, and project-based learning, among many other learning methodologies that view students as constructors of their own educational journeys. In doing so, the classroom dynamics change from teacher-centeredness to teaching and learning encounters generated from students’ interests and needs. Consequently, instruction turns into workshops that seek explanations to authentic daily-life situations. The system, therefore, relies on higher-order thinking skills, such as analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. More so, it enables students to develop fundamental skills, such as problem solving, decision-making, critical thinking, collaboration, leadership, communication, and citizenship. In this regard, progressive education breeds leaders, thinkers, analyzers, influencers, and activists that encourage change and establish better living opportunities.
Pioneers in Progressiveness
Eastwood International School is keen on delivering such progressiveness in its various programs. It is one of the very few schools in Lebanon that effectively caters to students’ intellectual and developmental needs. In doing so, and in ensuring that the programs delivered are always intellectually stimulating (and fun!), the School continuously undertakes improvement planning and professional development.
One Step Further
One of the most prominent programs that Eastwood takes pride in successfully implementing is the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program. The IB Program, an internationally acknowledged program, takes progressive education concepts into account. It does more than just teaching the set curricula. The IB Program commits to developing inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring learners that are constantly motivated to succeed. The Program endorses independency in learning and acquiring information, critical thinking and assumption challenging, and cultural awareness and civic literacy. Consequently, the intellectual capital of these learners is highly developed ensuring enhanced engagement in higher education and prospective endeavors.
Good News to Lebanon
Lebanese Education Officials finally answer the call for reformation! It comes as GREAT news to Lebanese students that they can, now, enroll in the IB Program. A foreign nationality is no longer required. Students, with a Lebanese nationality, can choose which program to pursue. The decision has been recently and officially announced. As of the next academic year, the IB Program is indeed made international with this new and exciting addition.
Choosing Eastwood as Your Future IB School
Eastwood International School welcomes a diverse student body and caters for each student’s needs. The School regards students as holistic individuals. Therefore, educators work with students on intellectual, academic, emotional, psychological, and physical levels. Additionally, small classroom sizes enable one-on-one attention from the teacher, where instruction can be tailored more individually. Students also develop closer bonds and get to know each other and their teachers better. Finally, faculty members, at Eastwood, are IB trained and Harvard certified. They continuously engage in professional development opportunities and make sure to employ their newly acquired knowledge into their instruction. The members show immense dedication and commitment to their careers.
Eastwood International School will provide your children with the best education Lebanon can offer. Being one of the most distinguished schools in Lebanon, Eastwood is the best IB school and always vows to offer your children an enriching learning experience!
